This is my laundry room this morning. This is where my towels stay all summer. Actually, they stay here 50% of the time anyway, but always during the summer. I usually wash a load a day. Every other day at least. See, one of my books was super successful (yes, just one, ha) and we were able to buy a house with a pool.

This is the definition of a first world problem, the fact that I can’t keep my towels clean and folded and put away during the summer. Part of that is me being lazy. And busy. But mostly it’s the fact that they are always on the kitchen floor mopping up the trails of water left by swimmers. We don’t have a lot. Mostly just me and the husband. My youngest daughter who lives nearby. Her dude. Her friend and the friend’s kids.

But we have dogs. One hates the water. One will wade in up to her chest, make a quick paddle around, then get back out to chase lizards and bugs and squirrels in the yard. When she gets hot, she repeats the process. No, the problem is the Black Dog. He will not stay out of the water. We have to spell words like S-W-I-M and P-O-O-L because he knows the words and insists they mean he can jump in. Then run back inside to show us.

Here he is racing the husband for his toy. Brown dog off to the right is the water-hater. White dog is the gentle paddler who uses the water to cool off. So, yeah. The towel washing never ceases, and I don’t even care that my laundry room is a mess. Except when I get ready to shower and forget there are no towels in the linen closet… Anyone else have swim-crazy dogs?
